Sometimes referred to as the Apple Snail (although these are generally species that are much larger) the Gold Mystery Snail is popular among hobbyists for a variety of reasons. They are enjoyed for their algae eating abilities and also for the ease in which they can be bred but still contained. They are colorful, can be quite hardy and are excellent for keeping debris down in an active tank. Steer clear of soft or acidic water as it will pit your snails’ shells and cause health problems. It’s also very important to make sure your water line isn’t too high as these snails will extend their siphons above the water to breathe air. The female Gold Mystery Snail will lay their eggs on the glass above the water line; another good reason to leave some wiggle room. You will want to keep a lid on the tanks you have your Gold Mystery snails in and watch for them to climb out. They can survive for quite some time out of water but will dry out and die if not placed back in the tank. One of the nice things about Gold Mystery Snails is they have a hearty appetite and will dine quite readily on biofilm or algae in the tank as well as algae wafers and shrimp pellets. They are also happy to eat blanched vegetables such as kale, spinach or zucchini along with cucumber bits. They enjoy dead plant material and aren’t considered harmful to your living plants. They will eat excess fish food, performing a much needed action in many tanks. Though the Gold Mystery Snail will breed in freshwater their population is easy to control because their eggs are laid above the water line and if you have enough snails you can simply remove them. In addition, they are not asexual so you will need both a male and a female to get fertilized eggs. They can lay as many as 100 eggs above the water line that will take two to three weeks to incubate. It is important if you wish for yours to breed that you have a lowered water line so they have area on the glass that they can lay their eggs. Once the eggs hatch some breeders recommend you section them off from the adults as they will irritate them by attaching to their shells and feeding on biofilm growing there. These snails are quite gentle and active. Do be careful with what fish you house them with, as they have been known to eat other fish eggs on occasion. Additionally, they are gentle enough that nippy shrimp can cause quite the problem. Small, live bearing shrimp and fish are generally acceptable when they share water parameters. Snails are particularly susceptible to coppers in the water so make sure your tap water is free of metals. Many medications marketed to treat sick fish also have copper in the ingredients and this can be lethal to your snails.

These are an awesome dark yellow/gold color. They are mature but not so large I think they are old. They look very nice in the tank. I'm very happy with them.

I was really impressed by the packaging. There was insulation and a heat pad in there with them and I got U SPS shipping. All four of them are alive and healthy :) One had a little chip in its shell but calcium will heal it.

All snails arrived alive and were active in the tank within several hours. Packaging was excellent. I had worried because of the hot weather but no problems. I would definitely recommend this company.

I purchased 4 Golden Apple snails and 4 Corona snails from Elite Inverts and I am very satisfied. The snails arrived in quickly and were packaged very well to keep them warm and safe. I was very happy with the cost savings compared to my local pet store an the snails were high quality. The Apple snails are very large. I intend to make future purchases from E.I.

Although I was skeptical about live snails actually surviving the shipping process from Arizona to Florida I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did they arrive alive, once they became acclimated to the tank they have become active members of said tank.

I love these great snails! They are very industrious and speed around the tank all day long. I used USPS shipping and had no problems at all.
