Rotala indicahas small leaves that are green on the top and pink on the bottom. This plant originates from India, and is an ideal mid-ground plant that will add color to the freshwater planted aquarium. Because of the small leaf size, it will grow rather densely, and may need to be thinned out in time.
The Rotala indicais a relatively fragile plant that should not be included in an aquarium with overly active fish that may damage the fragile stems. It prefers a water temperature that is toward the upper end of its acceptable range, and it requires a moderate to high level of light of 3 to 5 watts per gallon provided by full spectrum bulbs (5000-7000K).
Reproduction within this species is by cuttings. Simply cut the plant at the height that you desire, but leave room for growth, then strip the leaves off of about an inch of the stem, and plant into the gravel. In time, roots will form at the last node and will aid in keeping the plant in place. The Rotala indica benefits from regular additions of CO2, iron rich fertilizers, and trace elements but will usually be fine without it in most tanks.

I just received my rotola stems and I am extremely happy. In the past I have purchased various stems from other places(Petco, Jacobs Aquarium, Buceplants, Petwarehouse, etc) and they all arrived in bad to horrible condition so I was about to give up on using stem plants. I took a chance and only order 2 stems because they were only $1.25 and I was ordering snails anyway but to my surprise these stems are in excellent condition, not mushy or dull at all. And to top it off they sent me extra stems and all of them are in great condition. These stems had roots already also which is great. I definitely recommend buying from them, nice firm stems with good red color even after being shipped 5 days ago, I still can't believe how good these stem look. I hope they last in my. tank.
